Why choose Switzerland for your next business event?

Naturally there has been a huge shift in trends for businesses and we have seen a much more diverse request in summer business travel, in particular the demand for the stunning scenery that this country can offer; from Swiss lakes, towns and mountains!

Recently Switzerland announced it was open to UK travellers from the 26th June 2021- These simplified measures for vaccinated and non-vaccinated (albeit tested) arrivals meant that this destination could confidently resume its business travel programmes with clients and agencies much like ourselves. After all could there be a more fitting location for your Meetings/conferences?

It was a great coincidence that within the same week we enjoyed meetings with some of our Swiss providers, Destination management companies and Convention Bureaus. Our team here at Corporate Peaks have used this time effectively to re-ignite relationships, develop new ones and plan appropriate familiarisation trips in order to really understand each destination and whether the fit will be right for our clients meaning if you are considering Switzerland as your next corporate trip you can rest assured in our first-hand knowledge. UK Travel light system update

In the UK, on Monday many members of the travel industry were waiting patiently to hear more about the road map and return to travel, many destinations depend entirely on the tourism sector however they, like us; understand the balance between safe travel and restarting the industry. As Corporate travel providers, we are looking forward to the return of business trips and connecting suppliers and colleagues with experiences that are most definitely deserved after many months of continued restrictions and lockdowns across Europe.

As expected, there wasn’t a huge amount of information from the UK prime minister, surrounding the specifics and we look forward to the continued updates. So that agencies, aviation and destinations alike can prepare accordingly for next booking peaks.

We quote “The Global Travel Taskforce is going to report later this week. We will be setting out before May 17 what we think is reasonable. We are not there yet.” – This is partly why we have been offering Staycation business trips for clients across Europe. It is seemingly the best bet (in our opinion) for the meantime if you are looking to take the team away in the early summer months.

However, the traffic-light system of green, amber and red was confirmed in a brief update from the Global travel taskforce., one of four ‘roadmap reviews’ set up by the government.

Travellers arriving from countries rated “green” will not be required to isolate although pre-departure and post-arrival tests will still be needed.

For people who have been in countries classed as “amber” arrivals will be required to isolate or enter quarantine.

And finally, for countries seen as Red, travel will be likely restricted unless due to compelling reasons, with which M.I.C.E travel does not fit within this list.

For the moment it is too early to say which countries will be on the green list. We will continue to update our valued clients as more information is released, which is why we are working with corporate travellers to book in advance for their 2022 incentive ski trips/conferences and all forms of business travel. Because everybody deserves something to look forward to ?

Italy to open its ski area!

It is the news that many fans of Italian ski areas have been waiting for. After a halt to the opening of lifts, many ski resort providers; much like those in France. Were left with the uncertainty as to when all important trading could commence.

Many of us ski addicts are desperate to give our quads a rest and enjoy full ski areas

Last week the CTS of Italy made gave the green light to Yellow Zones to prepare for this week’s opening. with staggered dates for different resorts – So where is this and what does that mean?

It is the news that many fans of Italian ski areas have been waiting for. After a halt to the opening of lifts, many ski resort providers; much like those in France. Were left with the uncertainty as to when all important trading could commence.

Last week the CTS of Italy made gave the green light to Yellow Zones to prepare for this week’s opening. with staggered dates for different resorts – So where is this and what does that mean?

Fortunately for most, this yellow Zone covers many of the main ski resorts. Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta and Veneto are some of the popular areas included. For the remainder there have been calls to open at a reduced capacity but so far these calls have been rejected due to rising numbers of cases within the orange zones.
As expected, health and safety rules will be enforced- online lift pass purchasing, social distancing and hygiene measures. As well as a ‘virtual queuing’ App- This is a great concept to reduce numbers waiting outside the lift pass office for collection. That way skiers can wait until they are called up to collect the pass they have ordered.

Each region will have the authority to review and make decisions on whether the regulations are working effectively and of course to monitor how those eager for some winter turns are adhering to the processes implemented.

Currently these openings are restricted to locals only, meaning many corporate ski trips will still not be able to go ahead. Yet whilst it isn’t the ski season that many providers will be used to by any means, it offers a chance to enjoy the excellent conditions and refresh the mind after such a trying year. For many the opportunity to enjoy some respite is much overdue in ski resorts across Europe. Whilst we have all been enjoying the ‘earn-your-turns’ mentality. Many of us ski addicts are desperate to give our quads a rest and enjoy full ski areas.

Does this mean that neighbouring France will follow suit? We are not sure, with the expectations given, (prior to the new covid-19 variant discoveries) to open in mid-January having been squashed and February written off also. Many providers across the country are now expecting a full write off for the ski lift openings. Despite this; the many resorts and villages have remained ‘open’ with a whole host of activities outside of traditional ski/snowboarding.

Following the developments of this winter, many of our corporate travellers have opted to postpone their incentive ski trip until 21/22 season. Something we recommend given the rapidly growing demand for winter business travel. Availability is already slim following the abrupt ending to the 19/20 season and of course all of this year’s bookings.

Although your business may not traditionally start thinking about next year’s ski trip already- we recommend that you start to do so. The postponements combined with lack of suppliers (for many were sadly unable to continue trading following the devastating economic effects) leaves a narrow space that matches many specifications and expectations in traditional briefs given by yourself to event agencies such as ourselves. With refundable deposits and flexible payment terms- you have an option to secure something that hopefully matches your requirements.

2022 the Winter to see us through?

The quote “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is a progress, working together is a success” – Edward Everett Hale has NEVER been more apt. The changes and sacrifices we have all experienced this year have been exponential, but by working together we have truly so much to look forward to.

…declare Winter 2022 as the hopeful Winter of Love!

Lets take a couple of steps back….It is early March and the year is 2020……..yes 2020, a number I type whilst taking a deep breath. After much speculation European ski resorts and of course entire countries begin to close, travel across Europe slows to a halt. Overnight those of us in the business travel industry experienced more than any plan b, c or d could prepare us for! Before we knew it all of our travelling was no longer applicable and our diaries emptied ONLY to be followed by the endless zoom meetings, uplifting online quizzes, and home workouts inspired by the UK’s Joe Wicks. The term British bake off really did represent the UK population and my jeans no longer fit in the same way!

Now skip to present day.

Whilst 2021 is not the post-covid-19 era we hoped to be experiencing given the new variants which took us all by surprise! But with numerous vaccine approvals and roll-out programs in place, Is it time for us to get excited? Alas, Now we can plan!

The UK Government’s aim is to give all adults their first vaccination by September 2021, falling in line perfectly with the winter season of 2021/22 and the seasons beyond will succumb to an exciting pent up demand for both leisure and business travel, although of course there will be other factors such as supply VS demand to tackle! (We will go into that elsewhere)!

Are any of you reading this old enough to remember the summer of love? If not let me break it down : Large sums of people were feeling disenfranchised and let down by various people in power, leading to the anti-war free-love movement which started in the US in the late 60s.

Well I’m going to go as far as to say and declare Winter 2022 as the hopeful Winter of Love! With care and caution- excellent prevention methods implemented by holiday providers; we will be able to travel safely again, and it will be time to get back to the things we love to do. It could be a winter of re-discovery and passion for seeing those places you long to, the trips that you love. After being cooped up for so long I cannot think of a more holistic place than the alps- The fresh mountain air and the multiple alpine sports on offer provide so many physical and psychological health benefits. The feeling may leave you reaching for the nearest tree to hug ? I can safely say that whilst the rest of the team is situated in the alps, those pangs of jealously keep creeping in. Where would be your holistic travel destination?

Given the restrictions for travel re-instated for this year, the demand we have received for 2022 ski and summer corporate travel reservations are extremely high for this time of year. This coupled with the fact many postponed business holidays from 2020 and now 2021 are due to take place in 2022, is affecting availability.. so for all those with specific requirements or who can’t wait to revisit their favourite destination, our advice is to start planning now!

Ski Fitness Interview

Following the developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, We spoke to Emma Colsey Nicholls to offer some insight into wellbeing and mentality for those who had missed out on this years ski trip- so enjoy and check out Emma’s Social media links at the bottom too!

“Hi Emma! Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer! We know that people are itching to get up on the mountain and; we thought it best to work with yourself to offer some insight on how to keep those lockdown legs in some form of action before finally being able to get back to the slopes and enjoying their corporate ski trip…”

Let’s face it, it’s the downwards thrill that we are all seeking…

Firstly, can you tell us a little about you and what you do?

“I’m a life transformation coach, I work online with clients to help them make lifestyle changes from a holistic approach. We help to balance and improve their lives by addressing health, wellness, lifestyle, mindset and overall happiness and wellbeing. My roots and experience are based within health and wellness and so that is always a key starting point. I live in the French Alps, just near Morzine with my family and am a keen snowboarder and love being outdoors as much as I can.”

Do you have 2 or more exercises you can recommend to keep skiing/snowboarding legs strong so that people can prepare before they get to the mountains again? Whether it be for regular skiing/ snowshoe/touring.

“Of course it’s a good idea to keep your fitness up all year round, but when it comes to training them specifically for the mountains there are a few key elements to consider and to add into your training to keep your legs fit and strong so that you are primed for an incentive ski trip as soon as you are possibly able to get on a plane and head to the mountains. These are my top go-to movements”

Exercise 1 – Squat Hold With Power Calf Raise

Sit your bottom back and down and hold a squat position aiming to get your thighs parallel to the floor with 90 degrees at the knee. Actively push down into the ground and hold for 10 seconds. When you have done 10 seconds you can add an element of explosive power by driving the feet in harder to the floor coming back up to standing with speed. As you come upwards, elevate right up on to the tips of your toes activating the calves, swinging the arms up above your head before coming back down into your squat position and repeat the squat hold again in that isometric squat position. Repeat for 6-10 repetitions.

Exercise 2 – Lateral Or Skater Lunge

Start with the feet together and facing forward. Keep toes pointing forward and take a big step out to the side. Bend the knee and lower the bottom down towards the floor, coming into a side lunge position. Take your time to lower to a place that is suitable for your flexibility and mobility and keep grounding both feet into the floor. As you engage the gluteus medius (side part of your bottom) push through the outside of your foot explosively and return to a standing position. Repeat for 6-12 repetitions and then change leg.

Repeat each set 4 times through to keep your legs primed and ready for the mountains.

Another key element that often gets overlooked with ski or snowboarding fitness is mobility. Your ability to move your body through a wide range of different positions. The more mobility you have the easier it would be to pick yourself up off the hill and make you less likely to be facing injuries. So I highly recommend regular mobility work like this one check it out here!

What are the benefits of these exercises?

“Holding the static position or an isometric contraction will activate more motor neurons in the thighs and help improve strength especially strength in that squat position which is essential in both skiing and snowboarding. Any skier or snowboarder will have felt that lactic acid burn you get in your thighs when hitting a particularly long run, or those wonderful moments of navigating your way through fresh powder. You want to train your legs so that you can hold that lowered position for longer and enjoy each run for all it has to offer.

Training power in your movements and activating the fast-twitch muscle fibres will help your legs to be better prepared for navigating and reacting to those unexpected moguls. And as previously mentioned, having good mobility will support you in feeling more fluid on the mountain and potentially decreasing your chances of getting injured.”

Is there anything that you recommend mentally to help people focus and prepare for a future ski trip or generally dealing with the fact that some may not be able to travel imminently? We understand that this third lockdown is taking a toll on many people and would love to hear your advice on general wellbeing that may be relevant.

“I see from my clients and my audience that this third lockdown has been extremely challenging and whilst we have to work to manage our mindset through the basics of the day to day, we also need to have something to look forward to. Yes, there is a lot that is out of our control right now, but we can still take control of where our thoughts take us. Practising moments of mindfulness to check in with yourself and how you are feeling, allowing yourself to accept what is right now and keep looking forward to the things that will come out of the other side of this.

In the area of positive psychology we know that having a reward like a high-flyer trip or an incentive trip of sorts at the end of a task is a great motivator. So whilst we don’t know when we will be able to get away on a holiday right now, having one planned is great thing to keep working towards.”

How important is diet in your opinion when leading up to a ski holiday? Is skiing really enough to warrant those indulgent fondues/tartiflettes we all so enjoy?

“I have to say that diet is important all year round, its what brings your energy in your body and your mind focused and functioning optimally and of course, it helps you sustain a full day on the mountain. In the run up to your holiday it can also be the difference on whether your ski pants still fit you or not.

In answer to part two of your question, anyone who has ever worn their fitness tracker while out skiing you may well have been left feeling disappointed with the amount of calories burnt (or lack of) while skiing or snowboarding, especially if you are using the lifts to get up the mountain. So while I truly believe that enjoying a tartiflette can be good for the soul and you should definitely allow yourself to enjoy one, you just don’t need to fool yourself you have ‘earnt’ it from all that skiing you have been doing.”

After the season not offering ‘traditional skiing/snowboarding’ and many people across the alps taking to ski-touring for the ‘earn your turns trend’ we would LOVE to know: which do you prefer and why?

“This year has brought me to enjoy touring a lot more. Mostly because it’s currently the only option we have to be able to get out and enjoy the mountains. I have also had a dabble at cross country skiing too, which is actually terrifying (those things have no edges) but also a lot of fun.

With splitboarding, there is an incredible amount of satisfaction that comes with knowing that you got to the top of the mountain with nothing but sheer determination and that it can massively improve your fitness levels. To experience untouched snow, how quiet the mountains can be with barely another person around is a truly remarkable experience that really awakens all of the senses to what it means to get back to basics and experience the mountains as people would have had to do when skiing and snowboarding was first discovered.

I also find it incredibly humbling to remember just how much we have to be grateful for with the amazing lifts we have in this day and age. Of course, I can’t wait for them to open again because let’s face it, it’s the downwards thrill that we are all seeking and you can definitely pack more of that in when you have a lift to take you to the top time and time again.

So even when the lifts do open again I will continue to splitboard for the health benefits, but back to regular snowboarding for the fun factor!- Who’s with me?”

Swiss skiing without breaking the bank!

Snowboarding in the swiss alps has always retained a reputation to pack a punch to the wallet. Whilst there is no denying that its certainly not the cheapest destination, there’s no reason why you have to go above and beyond with the spending. It would certainly be a shame for our clients to miss out on some superb skiing and beautiful swiss towns. So lets take a look at some alternative options that could be a hit for your next incentive ski trip.

1-Laax: This uber trendy resort is a huge hit with snowboarders and freestyle skiers . Made up of three locations, Laax, Flims and Falera. It’s one of the largest ski areas offering four snowparks for those who dare. If you are looking for the liveliest location to visit with your team. Laax is for you and the hotel that we like is the eco-friendly Riders hotel, not only does it focus on a xero waste policy, but the hotel is run on 100% renewable energy with maximum energy efficiency. This hotel also has an underground club . But rooms can be booked at the hotel for reasonable rates that will include your lift pass also- a normally large non-negotiable cost that is expected with each ski trip.

2-Les Diablerets: We spoke about this area last week in a our blog., when we mentioned Villars, the linked resort. But Les Diablerets has a glacier and offers awesome snowboarding/ skiing- meaning you can really maximise the off-peak weeks, which our clients typically would. You could even offer a festive pre-Christmas incentive to this resort to ski for less too. Not to mention cheaper accommodation for this time of year too.

For the more daring corporate travellers, you also have the opportunity to ditch the comforts of chalets/ hotels and stay in one of many of the alpine refuges. Enjoying outrageous sunsets and breath-taking views *Although we recommend this for people who truly love the tranquillity of the mountains natural surroundings.*

3.Interlaken: A sell-out location with backpackers year round. It is superbly well-connected by means of transport and is a lakeside town. If you are coming here you should not expect to ski to the door; however use the train (free with your ski pass / bus) to access the Jungfrau ski region. Our very own Heidi had the pleasure a few times last season of enjoying the ski area of Wengen, including in the Jungfrau; take a look at her review here: Wengen – Corporate Peaks .

Staying in Interlaken, means you are able to shop here for the necessities for evening meals and enjoy your mountain meal when skiing. You could also consider incorporating a ‘come dine with me’ theme for your colleagues if staying in an apartment or self-catered accommodation! Although I’m not sure I’d want to cook for the boss ? ha-ha.

So there we have it, three locations to think about before we exclude Switzerland from our corporate ski trip proposals, swiss hospitality is excellent alongside the abundance of cultural events, off-slope activities and not to mention a large proportion of swiss resorts are considered ‘snow-sure’. The best resorts to drive to this winter!

With the travel landscape having altered since last winter and less flights currently available, more and more people are choosing to drive to their favourite winter destinations this year!

How about a fancy dress rally to the alps?!

With flexibility on travelling and the opportunity (as if we needed an excuse), to over pack your suitcase with multiple outfits and space for party props/ fun team games should you want to really make the most out of your chalet break. Not that you should need to use your car much in resort, but there is also the added bonus of being able to get up to alternative lifts to avoid any central area queues also!

This year a lot of our corporate clients are focusing on exclusive property rental, so that external interaction is limited and team-bonding games can be the primary focus, to reboot energy levels and colleague morale after such a trying year. Driving in convoy could be a fun way to kick start that holiday feeling. How about a fancy dress rally to the alps?!

From Calais, there are a number of resorts that are all around the 8-9 hour mark:

  1. Portes Du Soleil! How could we not mention the Corporate Peaks flagship ski area? With access to some stunning skiing and a mixture of fun for all ages. There are also smaller villages below the main ski resorts that offer competitive rates on accommodation, a quieter ‘village-like’ feel that may be perfectly suited to respect the desire to slip away from the crowds this winter season. Places like St Jean D’Aulps are bustling with small-large holiday rentals that could be ideal for your groups dynamic, with its own ski area famed for quieter pistes too!
  2. Chamonix! This Powerhouse resort is ideal for self-drivers, with separated ski areas, that if you prefer to not use the excellent bus system that is in place under the current circumstances, having your own car will help you get from a-b with ease around this resort.
  3. La Clusaz! An option in the Savoie for you to consider, with a quaint feel but a lot to offer on the slopes. This hidden gem is popular with second-home owners from Annecy and has an exceptionally French feel to it. Rarely have we heard English accents other than our own trip attendees whilst there. Great news for those really looking to escape! As well as some fun alternative activities by the main square for you all to take part in.
  4. Villars (Switzerland)! Although one of the closest resorts to Geneva, this location is a beautiful tree lined skiing resort, ideal for short weekends and traditional swiss ski holiday feels. With chocolate box style chalets. With less challenging terrain and a heavy focus on red and blue slopes, it could be the perfect idea to keep the group skiing together at all times and once more enhancing that team spirit feel! We’ve spent too long by ourselves this year- lets reconnect a little!

These are just a few locations that are suited to self-driven arrivals. Of course you can access plenty more pan-european resorts but we find these routes the easiest and close also to key cities and other resorts that you can even consider ski-safari events to really maximise your time on the mountains this winter making for any lost ski days last season!

Doing things differently is top priority for most hoping to hit the slopes this season and whilst we wouldn’t recommend driving all of the time, there are so many benefits to doing so for your next corporate trip. Combining fun challenges along the way and having extra space for business materials or as we mentioned party props for your chalet can only enhance your stay and really help your group have the time that they deserve.

Employee reward schemes are becoming ever popular to boost morale and productivity within the work the place, incentive travel events are one of those that are most proven to work well.

…try something different and often think of somewhere unusual!

Here at Corporate Peaks we wanted to highlight some of the top 9 pointers for Corporate travel events.

  • Budget – The big one!
    Have a think about what is most appropriate for your corporate trip and do some costing research to make sure you have a realistic budget for the standard of luxury that you are looking for. It can be a common misconception that if it is a group booking you can get huge discounts, that is not always the case if you are one off booking.
  • Group Size: The size of the group will always change the overall dynamics, and logistics of the trip. While smaller groups may be easier to manage especially when it comes to last minute changes, large groups should be organised well in advance. We would always recommend reserving exclusive space especially when it comes to restaurant reservations.

  • Choosing a destination; We always tend to encourage clients to try something different and often think of somewhere unusual, that the team might never have been before. New and exciting destinations are coming up all the time and will really add a new element of excitement for the trip. Don’t forget to consider travel times (flight time/distance from the airport) if you are only going for a few days. The weather at that time of year, to hot/cold likely to rain, or for ski, how will the snow be! Also the cost differences between summer and winter incentive trips can play a part in this, summer for example there tends to be a lot less unnegotiable costs in comparison to a ski trip, leaving more funds for fun in resort!
  • Choosing transport: From flights to the resort transfers and getting from A to B in your chosen destination, getting the logistics right is essential, often the cheapest option will mean a wait and less comfort. For incentives this is key!
  • Choosing Accommodation:
    This one can be the real time consumer. Location, location, location is generally one of the most important decisions. So, then you must research the resort to see if its near to the activities that you want to do.i) How many rooms/beds will people be sharing, is the accommodation big enough for the amount of rooms, what facilities does it have?ii) Confirm that there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (important if expecting to work/conference and of course internet speed is a big one for those all-important zoom calls!).

    iii) Does it have big enough conference facilities, particularly to suit the seating arrangements required?

    iv) Check for any extra package add-ons you can have like wine with dinner for a small fee. (incentive trips are normally fully paid, anything you can do in advance to bring down your company costs are a bonus)!

    v) Do your research on the accommodation, Is there a side to the hotel that is on the road for example, specify no rooms on that side, no one wants a traffic view with taxis zooming passed all night, particularly on a city break.

  • Choosing Activities: Are your group active/non active or a complete mixed bag? looking for daytime/evening events should be your first thoughts, booking in advance is of course key! Following your research what’s available in the area. Make sure you check reviews and are using a reputable company that specifies its full itinerary and what you get included, no hidden surprises welcome! When you are there, check you are getting everything you paid for.
  • Planning in advance: Confirm everything a month, a week and a few days before the trip, especially regarding transport. Making sure you have the correct contact numbers to take with you, including any out of hours/emergency numbers. Have a list of your group and their contact telephone numbers for the trip- we always recommend a WhatsApp group so we can post pins, important numbers and everything people need to know in one place!
  • What could possibly go wrong? With all this planning, you would assume nothing, right? Wrong! Always assume not everything will go according to plan. Plan B is your best friend on these trips, it doesn’t hurt to have a plan c also!

There are a lot that goes into every corporate event no matter the size or the objective of your trip. Often on top of your own day to day duties, planning them can seem like hard work and most certainly time-consuming. But Most importantly the pressure can continue in resort. We are always looking for new resorts for our clients here at Corporate Peaks. This year we added Wengen In Switzerland, as another string to our bow which is great place for Incentive travel events.

As we headed up to the car-free Lauberhorn village, which is only accessible by the Wengernalp Railway, a feeling of relaxation washes over you. Whether skiing or just riding the train up to the top for the spectacular views, tis a site to behold.

The resort is famous for the annual Lauberhorn World Cup downhill race, which takes place every January. A must-do if you are content on a black run, something to brag to your friends about and almost definitely raises the heart rate, as you race down where many a pro skier has gone before! I did it with a close pal (and coincidentally a ski instructor) and for me it was a great challenge, but well worth the effort.

Wengens’ other claim to fame is being part of the James Bond film “On his majesty’s secret service” The Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, sees James bond skiing out of the restaurant as its blowing up around him, dropping 30ft and skiing off, like it’s all in a day’s work, which of course it is for George Lazenby (the then glorious 007).

The Village itself is a short main street, lined by shops and several large Victorian-style hotels. There are few bars and Hotels that offer live bands and the tourist office has a weekly schedule. Which we can always review and make minor changes to those who have booked a more detailed corporate ski trip.

So next up- Where to after the slopes if it isn’t your hotel/ chalet spa? The following suggestions are great for taking your incentive trip employees for a bit of apres ski. The rock bar, Hotel Maya Caprice and Hotel Sunstar, are three of those to mention. If you are looking for a later night there is an underground night club by the Silberhorn hotel with an eclectic playlist but fun nonetheless!

Wengen also has a mix of Swiss and Italian restaurants, for all price ranges. We ate at a rustic Italian that has great service, very-good pizza/pasta of course, but great meat and vegetarian options also- For every one of our Corporate Events it is undoubtedly important for us to source out varied menus with the ability to cater for all dietary requirements. So be sure to check out Sinas and has a cosy apres bar attached with it, for a more rustic, relaxed vibe with excellent service too!

The views from the ski area are a highlight with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains making a magnificent backdrop. For more far-reaching views, the railway continues above the ski area, through a tunnel in the Eiger to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454m. On the way there are stops at two viewing galleries carved out of the sheer north face.

The local ski area, with 103km of pistes, suits intermediates, the best; Mürren’s slopes are a bit tougher, but vary. In total the Jungfrau lift pass covers 210km of pistes and is served by 40 lifts.

All in all Wengen certainly shone as our hidden gem of the season and one that we hope to visit more often with our corporate incentive trips, who are looking to escape some of the crowded powerhouse ski resorts!

LOCAL FOOD TASTING IN THE ALPS!

From the whimpers and howls eager to go, to the rush of being whisked away, it is an experience not to be missed and a perfect addition to your corporate alpine holiday. Contrary to popular belief however, dog sledding does take a bit of athleticism and a fair bit of balance as the dogs albeit well trained, love nothing more than to take off full speed into the snow, requiring the driver to control the sled, lean into the turns, break, and ultimately try to stay upright. But fear not, as one is given the option to either drive the sled or be a passenger soaking up the sights while letting someone else do all the work.

    Our latest experience with this great activity took place in Chamonix, where our corporate group learned about the history of dog sledding, the tricks of the trade, and then took turns trying it themselves whizzing across the ups and downs of the beautiful French Alps. While half of the group enjoyed the rush of the activity itself, the other half was content sampling some of the Savoie region’s staples. Cheese, meat, and vin chaud. Combining the food tasting and the dog sledding, helped to break up the group into teams and allowed us to learn a little bit more about why this area is so rich in its cheese production.

    In the Savoie winter cows are not an everyday sight but in summer reality is much the opposite. In spring they graze in the lower regions of the valley in which most of these French towns are positioned, and as the snow melts gradually up towards the mountain peaks, there too the cows will follow. This results in the cows eating a variety of different plant life thus resulting a variety of different tasting cheeses. From Beaufort, to Reblochon, to the Corporate Peaks staff favorite- ‘Abondance’ one is sure to find a liking in one of the many tasty cheeses on offer in this region. In the end, you are what you eat!

    These non-skiing/snowboarding activities are offered in locations such as Chamonix, Morzine, Les Deux Alpes, Sölden, Zermatt, and many more.
